Examining the death of Jesus upon the cross, Listening at Golgotha takes us on a personal journey to the cross, at the feet of Jesus. A book of meditations for Holy Week, Listening at Golgotha offers reflections on the seven times Jesus spoke from the cross, inviting us into the depths of his suffering on Calvary and the gifts offered by his death. This book allows us to approach the death of Jesus upon the cross in a spirit of devotion and self-examination. Rather than skip ahead to the rejoicing of Easter Sunday, Listening at Golgotha confronts us with suffering and death on Good Friday in ways that will transform our lives. Preached in Duke University Chapel during Holy Week of 2002, these meditations were born in nearly four decades of ministry in South Africa, where the church had to learn a cross-shaped ministry under the shadow of apartheid. Each of the seven brief chapters features a meditation, reflective guidance, a prayer, and original art by Jan Richardson.
